Our Pupil Premium Statement
In this section of our website you will find information of how we spend some of the monies we receive from central government – for example The Pupil Premium and PE and Sports Premium.
What is Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is funding allocated to schools for the purpose of boosting the attainment of pupils from low income families. It is intended to enable schools to provide targeted support to help children reach their full potential. Funding is allocated for children who are Looked after by the Local Authority (CLA) and for every child who is registered for Free School Meals.
Purpose of Pupil Premium
- The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to provide to tackle disadvantage and ensure additional support reaches the pupils who need it most.
- In most cases the Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.
- Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit. However, they will be held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families.
PE and Sports Premium
The government has provided £450 million between 2013 to 2018 to primary schools to help them improve the quality and teaching of PE and to develop the sporting opportunities for extra-curricular activities and competitive sports for all children.
The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health, and Culture, Media and Sport and our school is anticipated to receive £16,000 plus an extra £10 per pupil for this academic year.
The funding is used to:
- Develop or add to the PE and sport activities that the school already offers
- Build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years
The aim is to see improvement across:
- The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
- Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
- Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
- Increased participation in competitive sport
For example, we can use the funding to:
- Provide staff with professional development, mentoring, training and resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively
- Hire qualified sports coaches to work with teachers to enhance or extend current opportunities
- Introduce new sports, dance or other activities to encourage more pupils to take up sport and physical activities
- Support and involve the least active children by providing targeted activities, and running or extending school sports and holiday clubs
- Enter or run sport competitions
- Partner with other schools to run sports activities and clubs
- Increase pupils’ participation in the School Games
- Encourage pupils to take on leadership or volunteer roles that support sport and physical activity within the school
- Provide additional swimming provision targeted to pupils not able to meet the swimming requirements of the national curriculum
- Embed physical activity into the school day through active travel to and from school, active playgrounds and active teaching
Year 6 Swimming achievements
When and where appropriate, pupils access local swimming facilities to learn to swim. We always support our pupils to achieve key national ‘mile stones’ where they are appropriate. The measurable characteristics for the end of Key Stage 2 are as follows:
- Pupils can swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 meters
- Pupils can use a range of strokes effectively
- Pupils can perform a safe, self-rescue in different water-based situations
During academic Year 2022-23 none of our Year 6 pupils achieved the above mile stones.
