Lime Academy Hornbeam School has places for 285 learners over two sites, Brookfield House, and William Morris. Brookfield House campus is at Alders Avenue, Woodford Green IG8 9PY and William Morris campus is at Folly Lane, Waltham Forest, E17 5NT.
All learners attending Lime Academy Hornbeam have Education, Health & Care Plans.
The academy’s provision is divided into three curriculum pathways, Snowden, Fuji, and Everest which are designed to meet a range of needs across the schools. Classes in each pathway run across Early Years, Primary, Secondary & Post 16. Each learner follows a specific pathway based on their individual characteristics, level of cognition, stage of learning and specific needs. Pathways are designed to ensure learners access a curriculum that will meet their needs flexibly, to prepare them for life beyond Lime Academy Hornbeam. Learners are free to move between and within pathways to maximise their potential.
Snowden pathway is delivered primarily through a thematic approach that facilitates coverage of the curriculum through interconnected activities, where concepts are connected to and reinforced through a common theme.
Fuji pathway uses a blend of thematic and topic-based approaches. This ensures that learners can access key areas of the curriculum, whilst also being stretched to reach challenging outcomes.
Both Snowden and Fuji pathways provide learners with opportunities to make real life connections, resulting in richer understanding. It is a curriculum for learners who relate skills and knowledge to their own experiences, making learning “real”.
Everest pathway is an adapted National Curriculum with an emphasis on promoting life skills and independence. Learners will apply their knowledge and skills in the community to generalise and consolidate their learning. It is delivered primarily through structured learning activities that are both fun and engaging. Thematic based approaches are used as a vehicle to enrich learning experiences. Learners will achieve qualifications and accreditations that will support them to move onto college, apprenticeships, or paid employment.

Admissions process
A place at Lime Academy Hornbeam depends on the following:
- If the parent and child like the setting
- If the local authority agree that a special school is the best provision and will fund the place
- If the school has the capacity and resources to meet needs
Not all learners who have an EHCP attend a Special School. Following an annual review, the staff, and professionals in liaison with the local authority may conclude that a specialist provision would be beneficial. The SEND team in the LA will support parents and families with the process.
The next step is to arrange a visit to Lime Academy Hornbeam. Visits can be arranged at both sites, if necessary, by contacting Reception on the following numbers: Brookfield House 020 8527 2464/ William Morris 020 8503 2225
The visit provides the opportunity to see the school in action and answer any questions or queries.
If the LA agrees that a Special School is the correct provision, parents will inform the SEND team that a referral to Lime Academy Hornbeam is required.
The LA will issue consultation documents to Lime Academy to initially assess if there is the capacity and resources to meet needs. If yes, professionals from Lime Academy will visit the learner in their current setting to complete the assessment. Lime Academy will contact the LA with the offer of a place. If the LA agree to the placement and funding level, they will contact parents with a formal offer. Lime Academy will then contact parents to arrange transition visits and a start date.
