Our Curriculum
At Lime Academy Hornbeam, our vision is at the forefront of everything we offer:
Shaping lives — a lesson at a time.
We deliver a person-centred, sequenced curriculum that is broad and provides meaningful experiences. As a result, every learner has the opportunity to build valuable skills and knowledge to become responsible, independent and successful young people. We have high aspirations for each of our learners, who are supported to reach their full potential.
We understand that every learner is unique and will present with their own range of strengths and needs; therefore, our curriculum has been specifically designed to provide holistic support to learners with additional learning needs. Our adapted curriculum provides enriching experiences for our learners to ensure that they receive an inspiring education that develops them academically, socially, emotionally and physically. We know that young people with learning difficulties have unique abilities and ways of learning. We, therefore, provide a stimulating and safe learning environment that nurtures and maximises the potential of every individual and celebrates their achievements. Our curriculum is heavily weighted to the personal development of our learners to ensure that they become positive contributors to the school, their families, their neighbourhoods, and the wider community.
Our four core domains set out the focus of our curriculum: My Communication and Interaction, My Thinking, My Body and My Wellbeing. Within each domain are multiple subdomains, which reflect the subjects outlined in our school timetables. Our subdomains are never taught in isolation; a PE lesson, for example, develops skills and knowledge from all four domains. This enables cross-curricular links that allow our learners to embed a deeper understanding and reach better outcomes.
Our curriculum is divided into three pathways: Everest (formal), Fuji (semi-formal), and Snowdon (pre-formal). Each learner follows a specific pathway based on their individual characteristics, level of cognition, stage of learning and specific needs. Pathways are designed to ensure learners access a curriculum that will meet their needs flexibly, to prepare them for life beyond Lime Academy Hornbeam. Learners are free to move between and within pathways to maximise their potential.
